Product Description

SBL basket strainers are used in pipelines carrying oil or other liquids to filter out contaminants. Their filtration area is 2 to 3 times larger than the nominal diameter of the pipe, far exceeding the filtration area of Y-type and T-type strainers. These strainers offer superior filtration precision compared to other types; their mesh structure differs from that of other filters, and they are named "basket strainers" due to their basket-like shape. The SBL basket strainer is a compact device designed to remove small amounts of solid particles from liquids, thereby protecting compressors, pumps, instruments, and other equipment from malfunction. When fluid enters the filter housing equipped with a mesh of a specific specification, impurities are trapped, while the clean filtrate is discharged through the strainer outlet. When cleaning is required, simply remove the removable filter housing, clean it, and reinstall it; thus, operation and maintenance are extremely convenient. It is currently widely used in the petroleum, chemical, pharmaceutical, food, and environmental protection industries. When installed in series at the pump inlet or other points in the system piping, it not only extends the service life of pumps and other equipment but also ensures the safety of the entire system.

How It Works

During installation, foreign matter may be introduced into the piping system, and raw materials may also contain impurities during production. When the liquid in the piping passes through the strainer, the impurities are trapped in the strainer screen. Once the strainer reaches a certain level of clogging, pressure is relieved through the pressure relief port, allowing the housing cover to be easily opened for cleaning the strainer screen. The housing can also be cleaned through the residue discharge port.

Scope of Application

  • Mildly corrosive materials used in chemical and petrochemical production, such as water, ammonia, petroleum products, and hydrocarbons.
  • Corrosive materials used in chemical production, such as caustic soda, concentrated and dilute sulfuric acid, carbonic acid, acetic acid, and ester acids.
  • Low-temperature materials used in refrigeration, such as liquid methane, liquid ammonia, liquid oxygen, and various refrigerants.
  • Materials subject to hygiene requirements in light industry, food, and pharmaceutical manufacturing, such as beer, beverages, dairy products, grain slurries, and medical supplies.
  • High-efficiency strainers manufactured using various specialized processes, etc.

General Principles for Strainer Selection

  1. Inlet and outlet nominal diameters: In principle, the inlet and outlet nominal diameters of the strainer should not be smaller than the inlet nominal diameter of the corresponding pump; generally, they are the same as the inlet pipe nominal diameter.
  2. Nominal pressure: The strainer's pressure rating is determined based on the maximum pressure that may occur in the filtration line.
  3. Selecting the mesh count: The primary consideration is the particle size of the impurities to be retained, which is determined based on the requirements of the medium processing procedure. The particle sizes that can be retained by various mesh sizes are listed in the table below, titled "Filter mesh specifications".

Use and Maintenance

  1. The core component of the strainer is the strainer element, which consists of a strainer housing and a stainless steel mesh. The stainless steel mesh is a wear-prone part and requires special protection.
  2. After the strainer has been in operation for some time, impurities will accumulate inside the strainer element, causing the pressure to increase and the flow rate to decrease. The impurities inside the strainer element must be removed promptly.
  3. When cleaning out impurities, take special care to ensure that the stainless steel mesh on the filter element does not become deformed or damaged; otherwise, a damaged filter element will prevent the filtered medium from meeting the design purity requirements, which could result in damage to equipment such as compressors, pumps, and instruments;
  4. If you notice that the stainless steel wire mesh is deformed or damaged, replace it immediately.
